Kennett CTC’s efforts are enhanced greatly by the in-kind service support of numerous community stakeholders invested in CTC’s work with youth in the Kennett Area. The following are a handful of the community entities committed to the CTC process:

  • Kennett Consolidated School District

One of Kennett CTC’s primary partners is the Kennett Consolidated School District (KCSD). The district Superintendent, Dr. Rudolph Karkosak, has been an active member of the Advisory Board since its inception in 2000; a KCSD district-wide social worker and a middle school counselor likewise serve on the Board. KCSD also provides meeting space at the school for CTC programs like Intercambio, as well as allows mentors to meet with their students at school, during school hours. In addition, KCSD administrators, counselors, social workers, and teachers enthusiastically promote CTC programs and provide student referrals and information on an ongoing basis. KCSD also publishes a quarterly newsletter to 15,000 Kennett residents and gives free volunteer recruitment ad space and features CTC programs and youth leaders in its articles.

  • The Garage Community & Youth Center

The Garage has been a tremendous partner to Kennett CTC for more than three years. The Garage has provided office and program space to Kennett CTC, along with the use of phones, copiers, fax and computers. The Garage also acts as the unpaid contractor for Kennett CTC payroll and accounts payables, and provides administrative support at no cost. The Garage collaborates with Kennett CTC on after-school programming, and programs are promoted and volunteers recruited through The Garage newsletter and The Garage website. The Garage also provides student referrals and participants for Kennett CTC programs, and the Executive Director sits on the Kennett CTC Advisory Board.

  • United Way of Southern Chester County

The United Way of Southern Chester County (UWSCC) is another key stakeholder in the CTC process. Carrie Freeman, Executive Director of UWSCC, represented the United Way and served on the Advisory Board of Kennett CTC from its inception in 2000, and resigned in 2004 so that Kennett CTC could apply for funding from the United Way without conflict of interest. In addition to providing substantial financial support this past year for CTC activities, and inviting an application for continued funding for the coming year, the United Way has demonstrated consistent support of CTC through various in-kind means. The UWSCC provides administrative support through unlimited use of photocopy machines and copy paper, promotes CTC volunteer opportunities on their website, and connects CTC program participants with volunteer opportunities in the community.

  • Kennett Square Police Department

The Kennett Square Police Department (KSPD) has likewise provided numerous forms of support for Kennett CTC since its inception. The KSPD Chief, Albert McCarthy, has served on the Advisory Board since it was formed, provides meeting space for CTC Board meetings and, occasionally, program activities, offers students internships/ride alongs if interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement, and regularly provides officers to interact with CTC program participants at The Garage. The KSPD Chief also serves as a mentor in CTC’s Mentoring Program, and works with the rest of the department to promote CTC programs and provide student referrals. This year, the Department also provided gang training to CTC mentors, as well as to Garage Youth Center staff, KCSD staff, and community leaders.

  • Chester County Intermediate Unit/ Migrant Education Program

The CCIU/Migrant Education have been enthusiastic supporters of the Kennett CTC since its inception. Approximately 50% of the students involved in CTC programs are referrals from Migrant Education program staff. Kennett CTC and Migrant Education staff work closely on program development, program planning, and identifying students who would benefit from involvement in CTC programs. The CCIU/Migrant Education also provide transportation for some CTC programs, including GirlTalk, and a Migrant Education Specialist from Kennett Middle School sits on the Kennett CTC Advisory Board.

  • Kennett Education Foundation (KEF)

KEF is a community-based foundation devoted to improving education in the Kennett area. The Foundation is supportive of CTC mentoring and leadership programs and serves as the Kennett CTC’s fiscal agent. In order to maintain open lines of communication between the two organizations and to enhance the planning process, the Kennett CTC Community Mobilizer sits on the KEF’s Board of Directors and Robert George, KEF’s Board President, is an active member of Kennett CTC’s Advisory Board. KEF also promotes Kennett CTC at Board meetings and KEF events, acts as a resource for CTC/YAC student scholarships, and solicits CTC Board and staff input regarding allocations for innovative grants for teachers and scholarships for students.

  • Council on Addictive Diseases (COAD Group)

The COAD Group provides drug and alcohol resource materials for the Kennett CTC programs, speakers and resources for GirlTalk and The Huddle, and CTC training, resources, technical assistance and meeting space for the 6 Chester County CTC sites.

  • Chester County Department of Drug and Alcohol Services (CCDDAS)

CCDDAS has provided $10,000 of program funding for the past two years. CCDDAS also promotes CTC programs in their county-wide newsletter.
